The lion King: The gift

Disney movies? Everyone knows them and loves them. We all watched them growing up. They are currently doing live-action remakes on all the big ones. The Lion King is one of the most popular Disney movies in history. Beyoncé is one of the stars of the movie and just released that she will be releasing a Lion King inspired album that will feature such artist as Jay-Z, Pharrell, and Tierra Whack.

It is said that the album will be released on July 19, the same that the movie hits theaters. The title of the album is The Lion King: The Gift. Beyoncé made the album to give people a different perspective from the view of both American and African artists. “This is sonic cinema,” Beyoncé said in the statement announcing the new album. “This is a new experience of storytelling. I wanted to do more than find a collection of songs that were inspired by the film. It is a mixture of genres and collaboration that isn’t one sound. It is influenced by everything from R&B, pop, hip hop and Afro Beat.”

She actually just released a a sound off the soundtrack that is called Spirit that was written and inspired by her role in the movie. The soundtrack was released on July 11 and the movie The Lion King: The Gift is being released in theaters on July 19. I know where I will be, but will you be there?

Prime Day concert 2019

Today we take a break from talking artist to talking about the concert that Amazon put on just last week. It took place on July 10, 2019 at the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City. The concert consisted of Dua Lipa, SZA, Becky G, and Taylor Swift.

The concert was broadcasted for prime members only. It was streamed live 200 countries worldwide. It was the first ever Prime Day Concert headlined by Taylor Swift and hosted by comedienne and actress Jane Lynch of Glee. Even if you missed it you can still log into your Amazon Prime account and watch the whole thing back.

Dua Lipa kicked off the show telling everyone how happy she is to be there performing with so many amazing women. That is the thing though, the night was filled with what everyone would call girl power. To follow her up you had Becky G, then SZA, and your headliner of the show Taylor Swift. Taylor Swift live premiered her new single You Need To Calm Down.

The whole night was a great success for all who watched. I think that everyone was mainly excited for Taylor Swift to perform but Jane Lynch kept the show rolling with laughter. Want to know more or watch the show. Amazon Prime is available for all who subscribe.

Who started it all?

Let’s take a walk down memory lane to the 1960s to talk a little about The Beatles. They were a legendary rock group formed back in the 60s from Liverpool, England. I bet you have heard a little of their music even if you don’t know who they are. But don’t worry. I am here to teach you what you need to know.

The Beatles were composed of four members. Their names are Ringo Starr, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and John Lennon. Paul McCartney and John Lennon met back in 1957 before the band was actually formed. Eventually they were invited to join a group and from there The Beatles were formed.

For a while The Beatles did a couple jumps back and forth between the US and the UK eventually returning home to the UK to get more serious about their music. In 1963, they released Please Please Me which reached number one in the UK. They went on tours and gained tons of fans. They called this Beatlemania. When they eventually decided to return to the US it was called the British Invasion.

The Beatles went on to have some really great years. It eventually took a toll on the band after four year of constant touring, live appearances, and constant recording. Eventually the band went their separate ways. As of 2012, The Beatles sold 585,000 albums and 2.8 million singles on iTunes. Overall, they sold 2 billion albums in 2012.

The Jonas Brothers: Together Again

The Jonas Brothers, Kevin, Joe, and Nick, are a band that was raised in a Christian household with their father being a pastor. They all followed what they enjoyed though. Eventually what they enjoy was singing and they started singing together which they enjoyed. This led to them starting a band which they called The Jonas Brothers.

Their first album is called It’s About Time. Later on they were then dropped from Columbia Records. At the same time their father left the ministry due to the fact that the brothers were not consider upstanding Christians. A while later after moving to California they were signed to Disney and they took off. They released albums called, The Jonas Brothers, A Little Bit Longer, Lines, and Vines, and Trying Times.

In 2013 the band broke up and went their separate ways to do their own things and follow their dreams. Joe formed a band called DNCE. Nick went solo, and Kevin started a family. This year, in 2019, a documentary was released so that everyone could learn the history of the band. Nick was actually the one that broke up the band. He admitted to this is the documentary. They were all destroyed when this happened and they didn’t speak for a while. They all thought the band would go on forever.

Recently though in 2019 the band announced that they were once again getting back together. It is the happy ending everyone was looking for. Which fits because the name of their documentary is called Chasing Happiness. The Jonas Brothers then announced an album which is called Happiness Begins. These go through the ends and outs and the therapy they had to go through to be able to be brothers again let alone starting the band back up. No one thought it would happen but it did. That is why our Happiness Begins again.

Pop Music Across the Decades!

Pop music is heard everywhere around the world. Everyone has a different opinion on what is good and bad. How it should sound and how it should be written. But that isn’t what this blog is about. Like all music pop music had to start somewhere. It started way back in the 1950’s during the rock ‘n roll era. All the old music was being replaced with new. But that isn’t what this blog is about either. It is about popular pop music from all decades. But to be able to do this you do need some background on how we got to this point.

Each decade brings something different to the table. In the 1960’s it was just becoming popular when the Beach Boys were becoming a big hit. Then you make it to the 1970’s and you have such groups such as the Jackson 5 and Elton John, and Queen. When you get to the 1980’s you have Madonna and Michael Jackson when he goes solo. The 1990’s brings you groups such as Spice Girls and Destiny’s Child. Finally the 2000’s brings you people like Adele and Taylor Swift.

What makes a hit pop song? There are certain characteristics that make a song popular. They need to have a catchy melody, they need to be easy to remember and sing along to, and have a good rhythm. They usually have a chorus that is repeated several times throughout the song. While also are talking about something specific.

Now days it is very uncommon to have popular song without some type of music video to go along with it. So we will also talk about these artist most popular songs and the videos that go with them.

You have now learned a little about how a popular pop song is formed sit back, relax, and enjoy learning a little more about what music has shaped pop music into what is today.
